Dr Shaun Ogilvie 
Director / Environmental Consultant

Shaun is an indigenous New Zealander, being of Te Arawa and Ngati Awa descent. He has achieved the position of Associate Professor at Lincoln University, and has a PhD in Ecology from the University of Canterbury. He has almost 20 years experience working on environmental issues. Most notably he is the Māori Business Development and Research Consultant for the Cawthron Institute in Nelson, and a Contract Evironmental Consultant for Tonkin & Taylor Ltd.  He is a Principal Investigator for Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga (a New Zealand Centre of Research Excellence). He was a past member of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Committee.  Shaun has a personal interest in research projects that support Māori community aspirations to sustainably manage the environment and natural resources.

Dr Will Allen

Will is an independent consultant and systems researcher with more than 25 years management and communication experience across a range of sectors - encompassing organisational and sustainable development, agriculture and natural resource management. He is particularly interested in supporting policy and management initiatives that are outcome focused – and build on participation, collaboration, social learning and adaptive co-management. He specializes in planning, monitoring and evaluation (PM&E) – working in and supporting multi-stakeholder and integrated approaches in complex settings.  Will manages the Learning for Sustainability site.

Alaric McCarthy
Alaric is of New Zealand and Kiribati (Pacific Island) descent and is a trained marine ecologist with experience in both academic and professional settings. Following a Masters in Marine Science, Alaric worked for the Centre for Sustainability (University of Otago) for four years conducting research around sustainable management of inshore resources and providing tools to encourage community-assisted management of local fisheries as well as other aspects of sustainability (organic agriculture, transport, housing) which have helped inform policy. He also has experience developing guidelines and management tools, marine habitat assessments, research co-ordination and liaising with communities and stakeholders. Alaric is currently undertaking a PhD in the field of Sustainable Fisheries through the University of Auckland and the Cawthron Institute.
